What's Happening in America?
A reflection on the events taking place in the United States and their spiritual meanings.

There is so much happening in the United States at this time that it can feel unreal how often information changes about what is going on.
What is happening at this time is an actual spiritual battle. Spiritual battles occur in every land in the world, but no land is more spiritually in turmoil than the USA.
This particular land is one filled with what the bible calls iniquity. According to Google's AI: Iniquity is a noun that means gross injustice, wickedness, or a violation of right or duty. It can also refer to a wicked act, sin, or lack of righteousness or justice. Synonyms of iniquity include evildoing, knavery, depravity, and infamy.
Iniquity is a severe offense to God and must be atoned for. The USA has had centuries of iniquity, and now, the hand of judgment is upon the nation.
“God's will is that none should perish. Judgment isn't His desire...but His necessity. The good must bring evil to an end, or else it would cease to be good. And yet His mercy is still greater than His judgment. His heart always wills for redemption. And therein lies the hope.”
― Jonathan Cahn, The Harbinger: The Ancient Mystery That Holds the Secret of America's Future
As the book The Harbinger explains, there are abundant reasons why America is currently in a moment of severe judgment, namely because it is constantly falling away from the word of God. Any few moments of scrolling social media, YouTube, or the television will demonstrate how purely unGodly the nation is. Since most people know the basics of morality, we won't get into specifics. It's evident that what is known to be moral and righteous behavior isn't the majority of what has become acceptable in the public eye in the United States.
The United States is unrepentant for many things, including a history of slavery, murder, and violence against God's people.
God (we call him Yahuah, a pronunciation we recently learned is more accurate to ancient tongues), has been extremely patient for generations. He has waited for the people to be given a chance to try again and again to improve before striking and continued to give warnings through the years. Those warnings have been ignored, and he has now decided it is time for the judgment to commence.
In God's eyes, judgment is divine mercy. He sees this as a beautiful opportunity to repair the damage and get the people back on track with his expectations.
For some, that sounds hard to hear. But if you were a parent and your child kept throwing and breaking dishes, you would want them to stop. You may begin by yelling for them to stop. You may warn them that you will punish them if they fail to stop. Then, after the 18th plate, you will likely grab them, slap their hands, and put them in a room for them to end the behavior and reconsider doing it again. Moreover, you likely had a rule in your house that throwing dishes was unacceptable, so they broke the rules by engaging in that behavior.
America has been breaking dishes for over 400 years since settling on the land they reside on, starting with slavery. The below excerpt from Lincoln's Second Inaugural speech speaks to this history.
"One-eighth of the whole population were colored slaves not distributed generally over the union but localized in the southern part of it. These slaves constituted a peculiar and powerful interest. All knew that this interest was somehow the cause of the war. To strengthen, perpetuate, and extend this interest was the object for which the insurgents would rend the Union even by war, while the government claimed no right to do more than to restrict the territorial enlargement of it. Neither party expected for the war the magnitude or the duration which it has already attained. Neither anticipated that the cause of the conflict might cease with or even before the conflict itself should cease. Each looked for an easier triumph and a result less fundamental and astounding. Both read the same Bible and pray to the same God and each invokes His aid against the other. It may seem strange that any men should dare to ask a just God's assistance in wringing their bread from the sweat of other men's faces but let us judge not that we be not judged. The prayers of both could not be answered ~ that of neither has been answered fully. The Almighty has His own purposes. "Woe unto the world because of offenses for it must needs be that offenses come but woe to that man by whom the offense cometh." If we shall suppose that American slavery is one of those offenses which in the providence of God must needs come but which having continued through His appointed time He now wills to remove and that He gives to both North and South this terrible war as the woe due to those by whom the offense came shall we discern therein any departure from those divine attributes which the believers in a living God always ascribe to Him. Fondly do we hope ~ fervently do we pray ~ that this mighty scourge of war may speedily pass away. Yet, if God wills that it continue until all the wealth piled by the bondsman's two hundred and fifty years of unrequited toil shall be sunk and until every drop of blood drawn with the lash shall be paid by another drawn with the sword as was said three thousand years ago so still it must be said 'the judgments of the Lord are true and righteous altogether.'
Mr. Lincoln himself was well aware that a judgment was due for the actions of the slavers. Just as Cain buried the body and walked away with no immediate punishment, the works of those who committed the atrocity have yet to be punished.
Deuteronomy 5:9-10
Thou shalt not bow down thyself unto them, nor serve them; for I, the Lord thy God, am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate Me, and showing mercy unto thousands of them that love Me and keep My commandments.
Numbers 14:18
The LORD is longsuffering, and of great mercy, forgiving iniquity and transgression, and by no means clearing the guilty, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation.
In essence, the United States is currently past the point of warnings for all of its crimes, and now, the iniquity of fathers will be punished in this generation.
While it may be stressful to read, the truth is right inside your bible and history books. God is not happy with how this community behaves and is therefore done providing warnings and is ready to set down the punishment.
As an individual, the best way to navigate this moment is to become truly repentant, ask for forgiveness, be honest about what you have done that is immoral, and begin to read his holy book to understand him.
Many Christians have been under the guise that God doesn't punish anyone. At most, many believe simply that the worst people will end up in hell at the end of their lives, but they don't believe punishment happens during their time on earth. Others believe that if they confess that Jesus is the Son of God once they are all good and never need to look back at the bible or follow any further requirements. It is folly to have this ancient book available to you and fail to read not a single story that would help you understand the truth. If you're able to spend 3 hours watching Netflix or scrolling YouTube or TikTok, you have the time to switch that activity with one that actually rescues you from the darkness on its way to your doorstep.
